Reliable Contracting Co. Uses HeavyBid on CPV St. Charles Project
The CPV St. Charles Reclaimed Water project includes construction of 71,000 feet of 18-inch waterline, requiring every possible means of waterline installation technique due to various terrains and site conditions — through wetlands, under streams, through highway rights-of-way and a hiker/biker trail, and in varying depths of installation. It also involves 34 Jack-n-Bores of 36-inch steel casing pipe to reduce impact on existing roads and watersheds. The 8-mile hiker/biker trail will be asphalt resurfaced. The project was broken into two phases and eight smaller sections of 2 miles each, worked simultaneously to minimize the hiker/biker trail closing and meet required time constraints placed by Charles County Parks and Recreation. The pipe installation started in October 2014 and is currently on track for completion of 50,000 feet of pipe installation by April 2015. The last 21,000 feet is slated for completion this year and cross through the middle of the state highway right-of-way.
What makes it interesting?
Every means of wireline installation technique available is being used due to various terrains and site conditions, including wetlands, streams, highway rights-of-way, a hiker/biker train, and various installation depths over the 13-mile construction area. The pipeline is ecologically responsible, transferring reclaimed water from a sewer treatment plant to the CPV St. Charles power plant and reducing environmental impact.
How HCSS Software assisted with this project
Requirements to project costs forward and perform what-if scenarios fit well with HeavyBid’s Escalation Setup and Scheduling. The job was bid nine times, with multiple scenarios for fluctuations in fuel, asphalt, and steel prices. Without the Escalation Setup and Scheduling portion to HeavyBid, this would have been difficult to perform, but HeavyBid made the task easy. Reliable Contracting also used HeavyBid’s Exchange and exported the contract to their accounting system. They are currently using HeavyBid for cost projections and change orders for the owner. The reporting capabilities of HeavyBid make the project manager’s job easier. Without HeavyBid, Reliable Contracting would not have been able to land and/or manage this project as successfully as they have.
